Got My Mind On My Money and My Money On My Mind

Uncategorised

This week I’ve been thinking about money. Prosperity. Abundance.

When you think about money, how do you feel?

I have to admit, the way I feel when I think about money has historically depended greatly on whether I felt like I had enough. And enough has varied quite a bit also – from enough for a Pixies concert when I was a teenager, to enough to cover payroll for my employees when I was in my 20’s. When I didn’t have enough (by whatever definition was applicable at the time), I would feel tight, constricted, and depressed.

Sound familiar?

Did your parents say to you, “Do you think money grows on trees?” Most of us are taught from very young age that there is not enough of it. This scarcity thinking is rampant in our world and it’s just not true.

Cultivate an attitude of abundance – there is enough for everyone, including you. If you want to create financial freedom and you weren’t born with a proverbial silver spoon in your mouth, it might take a shift in your beliefs around money.

Here are some common negative beliefs and new beliefs to try on:

Limiting Belief: I have to work hard my whole life just to get by.
Replace With: Making money is easy and effortless.

Limiting Belief: Rich people are greedy, materialistic, and unspiritual.
Replace With: Lots of money allows for supporting the causes I believe in and spreading my message.

Limiting Belief: I don’t deserve to make money.
Replace With: I love, I care, I make money.

Limiting Belief: Other people will judge me if I have lots of money.
Replace With: I am the same good person, even while I make more and more money.

Limiting Belief: Rich people are fundamentally different than me, I’ll never break into that world.
Replace With: There is enough money for everyone. I am a money magnet.

Limiting Belief: I don’t have enough to give charity to others.
Replace With: I generate more than enough money and have plenty to share.

Limiting Belief: I’m poor.
Replace With: I’m rich.

These new beliefs encourage financial flow. Instead of being tight and constricted around money, you can release that grip and invite the natural flow of abundance into your life.

If you find it difficult to readily adopt these money loving beliefs, find people who exemplify these beliefs (you know: Oprah, Bill Gates, George Clooney – or, better yet, someone you actually know) and emulate their behaviors around money. Are they generous? Do they take on frivolous debt? Do they pay attention to their money? What would they say about their finances?

Here is a link if you want some inspiration.

The most profoundly generous people in the world, the great philanthropists, the founders and benefactors of so many charitable organizations, hospitals, museums, libraries, and schools – our institutes of education, healing, and culture – are almost invariably RICH. Big money means big potential to benefit the world.

This takes practice, but you can do it! Stay committed to the shift, be gentle with yourself when you fall off course, get back in the game, and keep it light – after all, this is fun!

I’d love to hear from you about how you are going to invite prosperity into your life this week.
